If you find this, please share my story.

It happened this morning. My phone screamed an alert that woke me from a dead sleep. The announcement was terrifying. Scientists around the world announced that they have identified a “planet killer” asteroid. They called it Yama after the god of destruction in some religion I don’t know. It’s coming here. And once it makes impact, it’s going to destroy everything. It is unlikely that anyone will be able to survive.

I cried when I first heard the news. I’m completely terrified. I don’t want to die. I’m not ready to die. Not yet. I remembered there’s a guy that lives near me. He’s one of those conspiracy theorist nut jobs, and he’s a bit of a strange guy. But he’s kind. His name is Mr. Trainer. He invited me and everyone else here to his underground fallout bunker. That was something like a year ago. I actually haven’t seen Mr. Trainer in a while, but I remember where he lives. He was preparing for doomsday. I thought he was crazy, but this might be my only chance to survive.

I’m going there now.

  • Day 3
If you find this, please share my story. The world is ending. That’s crazy, right? And I decided to listen to a crackpot’s idea of a safe bunker underground. If this were a television drama, I’d be the dead kid in the cold open. I’m in over my head. This bunker is empty. There are are ...
  • Day 4
If you find this, please share my story. Today was a hard day. I didn’t know how hard this was going to be. Being alone is the worst. Why didn’t I talk to that kid, dammit? The strangest thing happened this morning. While I was moving water from the well to the bunker’s water barrels, I heard ...
  • Day 6
If you find this, please share my story. It’s bad now. The power is out for good. There are people in town still. It’s getting awful and I don’t know what to do. I didn’t write yesterday. I suspect I won’t write every day. I just got more water and went through what I stole from the ...
  • Day 8
If you find this, please share my story. I miss him. I can’t believe I said all those awful things. He was hurting, too. I lashed out. I don’t know what I was even thinking, and now it doesn’t matter. He left. He’s gone. You know what’s the dumbest part about it? I don’t even remember ...
  • Day 9
If you find this, please share my story. The girl is a good person. She was awake before me and had made a few trips to the water pump already. She said she wanted to thank me for giving her a place to stay. But the way she said it, I wonder if she thinks this ...
  • Day 12
If you find this, please share my story. Two weeks ago, we were fine. Then they said an asteroid was going to kill us all. Panic, obviously. What else? They said they’d try to shoot it out of the sky, like some stupid Hollywood summer hit. I don’t think it’s going to happen, though. That’s why ...
  • Day 13
If you find this, please share my story. What is normal? Will I ever experience ‘normal’ again? Same routine today. The girl isn’t speaking much to me right now. I don’t blame her. I feel… I don’t know how I feel. Something is wrong with me. They were going to kill me. That one guy wasn’t, ...
  • Day 17
If you find this, please share my story. I haven’t recorded anything for days. I’m fine. The girl saved me. The child saved me. I might be dead had it not been for them. I’m glad I welcomed her into the bunker. It was a good decision. With the child, the girl and I can’t go on ...
  • Day 20
If you find this, please share my story. I have been useless. My side still hurts and crawling to the bunker like I did makes everything sore. The girl made me drink a lot of water and eat a lot of our food, and I feel bad about that. She had to leave the child with ...
  • Day 27
If you find this, please share my story. Not much has happened. I need to get better about keeping track of my history here if anyone gets a chance to see it. I can feel it. I can feel Yama getting closer. It makes my head spin, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand ...
  • Day 29
If you find this, please share my story. They found us. The raiders found us. We saw bodies in the streets a few days ago. I hoped they had all killed each other. The girl went into town for supplies. She didn’t come back. I was so afraid that I almost didn’t know what to do. The ...
  • Day 32
If you find this, please share my story. We had a setback. Those raiders from a few nights ago figured out what was going on. They must have been watching us for a while, waiting for the right moment to come in. They knew we wouldn’t be much of a fight. She’s small and thin. The ...
  • Day 33
If you find this, please share my story. Short entry today. I tried drinking water from the recycler. It’s not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but I’m going to have to find some powdered lemonade or something for this. It’s only revolting because I know what it is. To prepare for the ...
  • Day 34
If you find this, please share my story. Last night was rough. There was someone banging on the bunker door all night. Someone found us. We tried to ignore it, but I kept my gun with me. What time did the banging finally stop? I don’t know. After a while, I crept outside to look. It ...

  • Day 40
If you find this, please share my story. Today, we closed the door. Yama is here. This is it. It’s time to live, or die. We spent the last few days gathering everything else we could from Mr. Trainer’s house, nearby farms, and some houses in town we dared to enter. We have clothes, blankets, snacks, and ...
  • Day 400 (Epilogue)
Listen to my story. This is the end. There was nothing to write over the last year. Nothing important anyway. It happened while we were sleeping. The earth shook so much, it cracked the walls of our home. We sprung a leak in a water pipe. Nothing we couldn’t fix fast. The girl and I had ...
