Day 32

If you find this, please share my story.

We had a setback. Those raiders from a few nights ago figured out what was going on. They must have been watching us for a while, waiting for the right moment to come in. They knew we wouldn’t be much of a fight. She’s small and thin. The child is only four years old. And I don’t think I’ve ever had any sort of muscle mass.

The three of us went to a farmhouse down the road for supplies. When we came back, the bunker door was open. I know we closed it. The raider man was sitting on the floor, humming to himself while eating a bar of chocolate. He said he had a gun and would shoot us if we bothered him. I told the girl and the child to leave so I could reason with the man myself.

I asked him how much food did he eat already. He replied that he hadn’t eaten much. I asked him where his woman was, the one who was with him earlier. He said she would be coming back soon. I didn’t have anymore questions for him. His fingers were sticky with chocolate and that slowed him down. I was fast with my rifle. Outside, I found the raider woman holding a gun to my child’s head. I’m a pretty good shot, though.

We buried them in a ditch and spent the rest of the day cleaning up the blood. The child cried the whole time, and I understand. The girl didn’t say much, but we embraced when we were done.

That makes six. Six people I’ve killed. I can’t even think straight. I had a dream last night. A happy dream. It was about him. When we first said… It was a good night. I miss him. I miss mom. I miss-

Moving on. We’re close on food now. We’ve gotten so much from so many different places. It should be enough to last a full year now. Water is all set, too. We’re going to have to get used to the water recycling system. It’s like we live on a spaceship or something.

We focused on entertainment today. The library in the bunker is just survival and romance books, but now the child has a few books of his own. The girl wants to expand the library and fill it as much as we can. I’m not opposed to the idea, but I’m wanting visual stimulation, too. We brought in Mr. Trainer’s TV and found some movies and video games from town.

Entertainment. What a strange- I killed six people. It’s been a weird month. That’s the lightest, nicest way I can phrase that.
